Who are we?

The Hastings Triratna Buddhist Group is part of the Triratna Buddhist Community (formerly the Friends of the Western Buddhist Order).

Led by Tonbridge Order member Vidyakaya with support from Sue Bower, we meet once a week for meditation and discussion. Alternating Newcomers evenings if you are new to Buddhism or new to the area and Friends evenings for more regular members. Anyone interested in finding out more about meditation, Buddhism and the Triratna Buddhist Community is welcome to join us by coming along to a Newcomers night.

We ask that people come along and learn both Meditation practices before joining the website.

Sangha Social Events

Great to here the news that Chris is taking on a social secretary role for the group I think these sort of events are so important to creating sangha. One of the ideas mentioned was a breakfast meditation on the beach which I'd love to come along too as would Paris. If you are looking for someone to lead meditation for this type of event I would be very happy too we could always follow it with a breakfast picnic or a breakfast/brunch somewhere. Also Paris and I just had a fabulous walk in…See More

Hello

Hi everyone,

My husband and I will be shortly moving to Hastings to live in the Old Town. Our fingers crossed for a moving date of 5th April. I've been involved with the Triratna Buddhist Community since 20O2 however I had already decided I was a Buddhist some years prior to that and have been meditating since 1997. I got involved initially through the Southampton Group and always had a close connection to Rivendell Retreat Centre.

I began working at Rivendell…

Regular fortnightly meetings in Hastings Old Town

We meet in Hastings Old Town from 7 to 9 pm every Thursday evening at the Isabel Blackman Centre, Winding Street, Hastings TN34 3AT.

We alternate two programmes every Thursday. One week we have Newcomers meetings which start with a 45 minute body relaxation and meditation. Usually either Mindfulness of Breathing or the Metta Bhavana (practice of loving kindness), followed by tea, biscuits and a discussion based on a Dharma text that we are studying. We are currently reading "A Guide To Guide to The Buddhist Path" by our teacher Sangharakshita.  (more details are given in STUDY BOOKS AND WEBSITES below.)  Membership of the website is conditional on attending some of these meetings.

The second week is for Friends which is more devotional and aimed at those with some experience of meditation.

Suggested donation per session, £3 -£5
